"Unter Sauriern": The Global Food Summit at Berlin Science Week

The crowd was huge - the chairs were not enough, in a nutshell: it was a complete success. About 250 listeners came to our event at the Berlin Science Week "Foodtropolis - Urban.Circular.Food." at the Berlin Natural History Museum

It was the first time that the topic of food was scientifically presented and discussed at the Berlin Science Week. And it was immediately one of the best-attended events on the science campus. Above all, we owe this success to our internationally top-class speakers, who even flew in from Australia and the USA for our event on 6 November 2019.

Insights into their research was given by: Prof. Christian Ulrichs from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Dr. Ousmane Badiane, Director Africa at the International Food Policy Research Institute in Washington, DC, Dr. Ariane Krause from the Leibniz Institute for Vegetable and Ornamental Crops (IGZ), Dr. Frank Thiemann, Head of Biomarker Discovery & Assay Development at Evonik Nutrition & Care, and Sebastian Cerone, Co-Founder at LESS Industries, Australia.

In the evening the Talks were followed by our Parliamentary Reception "Nachts im Museum - Unter Sauriern", hosted by the Global Food Summit together with Cyber Valley from Tübingen and Stuttgart and ETH Zurich.

Parliamentary State Secretary Hans-Joachim Fuchtel from the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Professor Ina Kathrin Schieferdecker, Ministerial Director at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Professor Johannes Vogel, Director General of the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, welcomed around 170 guests from politics, research, companies and associations.

We would also like to thank all the speakers as well as Prof. Ulrike von Luxburg from the University of Tübingen and Cyber Valley and Prof. Gisbert Schneider from ETH Zurich for their significant contribution to this unique evening.

Next year we will be back at Science Week. We will be lending food innovations a voice again.
